Minor Project (Cooling the Heat, Healing the Mind)

Progress

Week 1

For the first week of this module, we were ought to seek group mates and the lecturer gave us the freedom to choose anyone from any specialization. After we formed a group, we chose a topic that we are going to do and in this case we chose the "Cooling the Heat, Healing the Mind" as our Minor Project topic.

Week 2

The second week, our group have already thought of some target groups that will be interviewed for our project and those target users being outdoor workers, we spend the week preparing the necessary needs to conduct the interview for the client and the targeted users.

Week 3

In this week, our group had extracted all the information that were given to us from the interview that were conducted last week.

Week 4-6

Throughout the weeks, each of the group members must conduct and interview with the targeted users that were assigned to each of us from the leader which in my case is a security guard. After roaming around Sunway we (me and another group member) discovered that most of the security guards are not available (they do not want to be interviewed, most likely because they think its a waste of time and just want to get on with their job), after some more roaming we decided to go to the last place i could think of which is the security post near the place i live and fortunately they would love to participate for the interview. After the interview was conducted, we had to transcript them and get the main points from the transcribe.

Week 7

For this week's class, the teacher gave us this activity called "The Crazy 8s", basically making sketches of our ideas related to the project topic. It is fun to me but also stressful since i am not used to being this pressured by the duration that was given to complete our sketches, but regardless its a pretty good brain exercise (i would show my sketches, but unfortunately i used it to kill a bug without realizing it and threw it out).

Week 8-9

These weeks are spent by preparing for the presentation that was going to be presented to the client, everything that we have done so far will all be included in this presentation as well as the interview results and our ideation for the project, which is a mobile Van/RV that roams around and provides the basic needs to people that work outdoors.

Week 10-14

4 whole weeks was used to prepare for the user testing in which me and one other groupmates are assigned to make a 3D prototype model of our idea inside a game called "Minecraft", why Minecraft specifically, why not any other 3D modeling software?, well it is because its free and the easiest way to navigate around the model and takes a very short amount of time to build the prototype design. We began making the model based on the first sketch that were sent to us by another groupmate and the process of making it wasn't particularly long since we did have some outside help. The next task that were assigned to me is making a walkthrough video of the said prototype model.

After a few days, there was a group presentations which unfortunately i couldn't attend because i had a medical check up during that day but from what i know, one of my groupmate send me a photo of the walkthrough video that i made being played in front of everybody present including the client, i was super embarrassed when it happen but my friend said that the client looked happy and was laughing, so i guess its a good thing? but i was still shocked to see that and my friend said that the video wasn't going to be played but the client wants to see it.

Reflection

This module was not that stressful for me since i got carried hard by my group leader, although i did some of the major task that was given by the leader i feel like i only did the bare minimum but the leader said that i contribute a lot which i think she is sugarcoating it but nonetheless i am so glad that this is over.

The topic of the project itself is something that I can relate to since I have some experience working outdoors in the scorching sun and heavy rain (I live in Indonesia) and it was not pleasant at all and considering that some workplace does not provide any ventilation and hydration, I cannot imagine what the people that work in these conditions have to go through.
